Nearly
400 African-Americans traveled from the Presidio in San
Francisco to Yosemite at the turn of the last century. Only
one image and a handful
of documents recorded their existence.
Somewhere out there are the living relatives of these men. Look
at the muster
roll and see if a name sounds familiar to you. Perhaps he was
your great-grandfather and your grandmother remembers his stories
about those days and nights in Yosemite. If you can contribute any
information that brings these men from the shadows into the light,
let us know. To post information and see what other's have contributed
visit the Regulation Tree.
Teachers and students are invited to visit the our Buffalo
Soldiers Activity Area to find provocative ways to approach
solving the mystery!
